A sunny afternoon and a new glass plaque made for an “interesting” photograph in the entrance way to the new church hall in Mountnorris. It was a great afternoon of thanksgiving and celebration as the congregation of just 90 families saw the completion and opening of an impressive new suite of halls.
The project was conceived during the ministry of Rev John Hanna, now of Glendermott, and has been completed under the ministry of Rev Nigel Reid. The PMS crisis means that I will probably be the Moderator who opens the fewest number of new church buildings during his year in office, but the dedicated and committed people of Mountnorris have not been deflected and have successfully completed their project in spite of the fact that much of their money was “frozen” in the PMS.
The service of thanksgiving in the church building and the speeches following the official opening and dedication bore witness to a wonderful atmosphere of fellowship and harmony that exists in the linked charges of Tullyallen and Mountnorris. Congratulations to the architect, the builder, the hall committee, the minister and the congregation of Mountnorris for a job well done. Both the lunch in the manse before the service and the tea in the hall after the speeches were delicious, and made it a great afternoon in the heart of County Armagh.
